Abstract Parthenon

David Skillicorn

About the Artwork

In Imagery Estate Winery, David Skillicorn captures the spirit and atmosphere of the landscape through his signature abstract visual language. Rather than focusing on a literal depiction of the winery, the work evokes a sense of place through luminous color, graceful forms, and layered spatial relationships. The composition reflects the natural beauty, energy, and serenity associated with wine country, encouraging viewers to experience the landscape on an emotional and sensory level.

Skillicorn’s abstract approach allows color and movement to become the primary storytellers. Soft transitions, radiant hues, and gestural forms create a feeling of openness and contemplation, suggesting changing light, rolling terrain, and the rhythms of the natural environment. The work balances vitality with calm, drawing viewers into a space of reflection and connection.

Consistent with the artist’s belief that art should move the human spirit and evoke an emotional response, Imagery Estate Winery offers more than a representation of a location. It becomes an immersive expression of atmosphere, memory, and feeling, inviting viewers to experience the essence of the landscape in an intimate and contemplative way.

About the Process

David Skillicorn’s painting process is rooted in the pursuit of abstraction as a means of expressing emotion, presence, and human connection. Through focused engagement with color, gesture, and form, he develops luminous compositions that emphasize atmosphere over representation. Rather than depicting a specific scene, Skillicorn layers shapes and tonal relationships to create paintings that communicate through feeling and visual experience.

In Imagery Estate Winery, the artist likely employs his signature use of graceful forms, radiant color, and intuitive mark-making to evoke the essence of the landscape rather than its physical details. The composition evolves through a balance of control and spontaneity, allowing color and movement to suggest light, space, and the emotional character of the environment.

Skillicorn describes his intention as creating work imbued with a sense of spirit and presence, offering viewers a calm and contemplative experience amid the pace of modern life. Through this process, Imagery Estate Winery becomes an immersive expression of place that is meant to be felt as much as seen, inviting reflection, connection, and a deeper appreciation of the surrounding landscape.
