About the Artwork

Dry reflects Kerry Vander Meer’s exploration of the natural world through abstraction, color, and movement. Rather than depicting a specific landscape, the artwork captures the feeling of an environment shaped by heat, time, and changing conditions. Through dynamic forms and layered visual elements, Vander Meer transforms observations from nature into an expressive composition that balances structure and spontaneity.

Known for creating bold, energetic imagery inspired by the landscape, Vander Meer often incorporates patterns, fragments, and organic shapes that suggest growth, transformation, and the rhythms of the natural world. In Dry, these visual elements evoke textures and forms associated with arid terrain, dried vegetation, or the effects of seasonal change, while remaining open to personal interpretation.

The artwork invites viewers to consider both the resilience and fragility of nature. Through its abstract language, Dry captures a sense of place and atmosphere while encouraging reflection on the cycles of growth, scarcity, and renewal that shape the landscape.

About the Process

Meer draws upon an intuitive process rooted in observation of the natural world. Working abstractly, she layers color, shape, and pattern to create compositions that capture the energy and rhythms of changing landscapes rather than represent a specific place. Her work often evolves through experimentation, allowing organic forms and visual relationships to emerge over time.

Vander Meer’s multidisciplinary background in painting, printmaking, sculpture, and performance informs her approach, resulting in dynamic compositions that balance spontaneity with structure. Through the use of bold color and interconnected forms, she builds a sense of movement and texture that echoes natural processes such as growth, erosion, and seasonal change.

In Dry, the accumulated layers and abstract shapes evoke the effects of heat, drought, and transformation in the landscape. The finished work invites viewers to experience nature through gesture, color, and pattern, encouraging personal interpretation while reflecting the resilience and continual evolution of the environment.
